The Scheibe SF 24 Motorspatz , initially referred to as "Motorspatz I", is a single-seater motor glider manufactured by the company Scheibe-Flugzeugbau GmbH in a mixed construction.

history

The Motorspatz was an essential development step towards the successful SF 25 . The first flight took place in August 1957, the series production ran until 1965. During this time 46 units were made. Today only two copies of this motor glider are registered in Germany.

An SF 24 was the first motor glider to be registered with "DK ..." in the new category. Since he had already been approved as a powered aircraft with the registration number "D-EHUK", the age of powered gliders did not begin with the "D-KAAA", as expected, but with "D-KHUK". Due to the lack of stability of the engine, the license plate was humorously translated by its pilots as "gasps, coughs and pukes".

construction

The motor glider is self-launching and its construction largely corresponds to the L-Spatz disc . The structural changes involved a slight reduction in the span, the relocation of the pilot's seat to change the load, the conversion of the tip of the fuselage to accommodate the engine and the installation of a semi-recessed central wheel. The prototype still had an 18 hp zinc-Brändl ZB 300 engine, which was replaced in series production by the more powerful Hirth F 10 , a four-cylinder two-stroke engine.

The motor sparrow is a cantilevered shoulder wing with a two-part, single-spar wing made of wood , which has a 14% thick Mü profile . The fuselage is designed as a welded tubular steel frame, which is covered with wooden moldings and covered with fabric. The self-supporting normal tail unit is also made of wood, with the fins clad in plywood and the rudders covered with fabric. The central wheel is not retractable.
