The SF 34 (Delphin) disk is a two-seater glider in GRP construction for training, performance and simple aerobatics from the manufacturer Scheibe-Flugzeugbau, Dachau.
history
The SF 34 is the first glider manufactured in a modern plastic construction from the Scheibe company, which until then had relied on the simpler and easier-to-use composite construction for club operations. Against the competition of other plastic two-seaters such. B. ASK 21 or Twin Astir , the SF-34 was not granted any great commercial success, so production was discontinued in 1987. The French company Centrair manufactured licensed buildings under the name Centrair SNC-34 Alliance . The company Scheibe Aircraft, which also acquired the production rights for the Scheibe SF 25 Falke , has been offering the SF 34 Delphin again since 2010.
construction
The fuselage and wings are made of plastic, the GRP shell construction is used for the fuselage. A characteristic feature of an aircraft of this generation is the cross stabilizer , which is rarely used for an aircraft of this generation, all major competitors such as ASK 21, Twin Astir or Janus and the DG double-seaters rely on a T-stabilizer , the higher ground clearance of which promises advantages in an outlanding . The manufacturer argues here with higher resilience and weight savings compared to a T-tail. An essential safety feature is the standard equipment with automatic rudder connections. The seats are at the same height one behind the other in the cockpit, which is provided with a one-piece hood that can be folded away to the side, which enables a very good all-round view. Airbrakes based on the Schempp-Hirth system on the upper side of the wing serve as a landing aid . The SF 34 is equipped with both a bow and a center of gravity coupling. A permanently installed, spring-loaded central wheel as well as a nose wheel and a tail wheel at the stern serve as the chassis. The arrangement of the main wheel behind the center of gravity enables good ground handling.
