Friedhelm Haak

Friedhelm Haak (born November 11, 1945 in Boekzetelerfehn ) is a German newspaper publisher, media entrepreneur and consultant. From 2006 to 2013 he was chairman of the board of directors of the Madsack publishing company .

Life

Haak graduated from high school Ulricianum in Aurich before serving as a reserve lieutenant in the Air Force between 1965 and 1967. He then completed a degree in business administration at the Technical University of Berlin and at the Free University of Berlin . He received his doctorate in 1973 on computer-based information systems in government and administration: structures, concepts and their socio-political implications under the supervision of Carl Böhret and Gernot Wersig .

He lives with his family in Hanover.

Career

He founded a consultancy for system catering in Germany. In 1974 he turned to development cooperation and worked at DEG, a subsidiary of KFW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, formerly KfW Bankengruppe), as a project manager for Spanish-speaking countries. In 1978 Haak took over the department for special tasks in Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries of the global south. From 1980 to 1983 he headed the holding company of the Hamburger Buchdruckerei und Verlagsanstalt Auerdruck GmbH. Haak was entrusted with the consolidation of the various sub-areas of the company, the establishment of a new corporate structure and the creation of a group-wide tax optimization system.

At the same time he was the sole managing director of four subsidiaries and as sole managing director of Deutsche Druck- und Verlagsgesellschaft GmbH in Hamburg.

Publishing company Madsack

In October 1983, Haak accepted an offer to become managing director for finance and audiovisual markets at the Madsack publishing company . With the introduction of the dual broadcasting system, Madsack added television services to its media offering by founding TVN. TVN started broadcasting some regional programs as early as 1984.

In the early 1990s began by the Leipziger Volkszeitung through our proprietary software called P-INK on a digital newspaper production without hot type -pressure order. This led to a competitive advantage over other newspaper publishers, as the process was faster, more flexible and less expensive. The introduction and development of the technology is largely attributed to Haak.

In 1995 Haak took over the chairmanship of the Madsack group board. Madsack continued to expand under Haak's leadership. At the beginning of 1991 the Treuhandgesellschaft awarded the publishing company and Axel Springer Verlag equal shares of the Leipzig publishing and printing company. In addition to the Leipziger Volkszeitung, this also included its sub-editions and the Dresdner Neuesten Nachrichten . The journalistic and publishing management was with Madsack. In 1996, the company began its first online news service (Madsack On Line) . Over time, in addition to the offers in the print area, offers in the online area and for mobile devices followed. In addition to the printing business, further business areas were established, in the postal and logistics business with the establishment of Citipost (1998) and in the corporate publishing area with the establishment of the Madsack media agency (2006).

After eleven years as chairman of the board, Haak moved to chair of the supervisory board in 2006 and was inherited by Herbert Flecken. His deputy on the supervisory board at that time was the former president of Arte TV and NDR general director Jobst Plog . Haak left the company in 2013 after more than 30 years at Madsack-Verlag. His successor on the supervisory board was Karl Baedeker . Haak then went freelance as a media consultant and mainly worked in the field of strategic management consulting. Haak is also a member of the Association of Northwest German Publishers (VNZV).

Memberships and teaching activities

Friedhelm Haak is a member of the Board of Trustees of the MHHplus Foundation of the Hannover Medical School and of the Senate of the International Foundation for Neurobionics. Haak was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Humboldt University Foundation in Berlin from 2013 to 2019 and a member of the Association of Northwest German Publishers (VNZV). He was a member of the supervisory board of the German Press Agency from 2005 to 2006. From 1993 to 2009, Haak was a lecturer at the Leibniz University in Hanover at the Institute for Economic Policy .

He was a lecturer at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland.

Television program and news company (TVN)

In 1984, as founding managing director for Madsack, Haak founded TVN Group Holding, its own TV production company that produced for both private and public broadcasters. In the meantime, TVN acts as a Europe-wide service provider in major TV events such as the Bundesliga , Champions League , Eurovision Song Contest , and many more. This was followed by productions for regional programs, image and industrial films as well as external broadcasts.
