The SF 27 "Zugvogel V" washer is a composite glider manufactured in the 1960s by the company Scheibe-Flugzeugbau in Dachau .

history

The SF 27 is a further development of the Zugvogel series that Rudolf Kaiser designed at Scheibe-Flugzeugbau . The first flight of the SF 27, designed according to the rules of the then standard class , took place in 1964. As a competitor to the Ka 6e , around 120 units were built. The only model was the SF 27b with a span of 17 m. The fuselage was derived from the Zugvogel IIIb and slightly shortened, similar to this, the tubular steel fuselage is clad in plastic in the front area in order to achieve a higher aerodynamic quality. The wings have a Wortmann profile as it was later used on the Glaser-Dirks DG-100 and the elevator is designed as a pendulum control unit. The SF 27 only has a center of gravity coupling that is used for both aircraft towing and winch launching .

The SF 27M version was built in series production as the first motor glider with a retractable engine. It is self-starting. Wings of the SF 27M were used in combination with an RF-4D fuselage in the SFS-31 "Milan" , a joint production (around ten copies) by Sportavia-Pützer und Scheibe. In the single piece SF 27MCi, the fuselage of the SF 27M and the GRP wing of the standard Cirrus were combined.

SF 27 built under license at Loravia in France as LCA-10

At Loravia in France, SF 27 were built under license as LCA-10 and LCA-11 "Topaze".
