The former inn on Schelfengasse

The former Gasthof Zur Blauen Traube (also Dreimädelhaus; today Schelfengasse 3) is a listed building in the old town of the Lower Franconian town of Volkach . The inn was in 1804 also the seat of Schrüferbräu .

history

The building was erected in the 18th century. However, the innkeepers are only known from the 19th century . In 1878 a Göb sold the house to Max Wießner, who continued the business. On January 14, 1891, the inn was sold again. Michael Waldmann took over the house for 35,000 marks, but after only three years he had to file for bankruptcy and the Blue Grape came into new hands.

Adam Schrüfer bought the inn on December 30, 1894. The brewery , established in the buildings as early as 1804, was renamed Schrüferbräu. Adam Schrüfer brewed beer there until his death in 1925, before his son Andreas Schrüfer took over the property. On July 5, 1920, he had passed the master's examination as a brewer in Weihenstephan . Three years later, in 1928, the brewery was already selling 800 hectoliters of beer in the city and its vicinity.

In 1936 the brewery was closed, in that year 3500 hectoliters of beer were sold. The inn continued to exist and was supplied by the Hümmer-Bräu from Dingolshausen . After Andreas Schrüfer had been called up for military service, he leased the house to the Haupt and Walz siblings between 1937 and 1946. The three sisters continued to run the business. Because it was leased to the three single women, the house was now popularly known as the “Dreimädelhaus”. At that time, the Kolping youth was housed next to the inn . After his return from captivity, Andreas Schrüfer took over the inn again. Since 1936, the Würzburg wheat brewery had its malt produced on the premises; the malting equipment had been purchased in the 1920s.

The brewery had a cellar on Sommeracher Strasse, which was known locally as the Felsenkeller. The Schrüferbräu held beer festivals there several times before the Volkach Hitler Youth took over the vaults in the 1930s. In 1954 the cellar was sold to the Rhein-Main-Donau Gesellschaft. This set up an explosives and tools depot there. At that time, the inn was still run by Andreas Schrüfer. For health reasons, he retired from gastronomy in 1955 and leased the inn. The Kordowich tenant family ran the restaurant until the early 1970s. The premises were then converted into apartments.

After the death of Andreas Schrüfer in December 1977, the building was taken over by the community of heirs . Due to upcoming renovations, the property was sold to a community of architects for the purpose of preservation. The building was preserved with an extensive renovation, which also partially included the outbuildings. In the past, renovations to the facade were also revised. From then on, the building was used as a commercial building in downtown Volkach. Today there is u. a. housed a dental practice with its own laboratory.
