history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1577. Until 1795 he was in the aristocratic republic of Poland in the Bełz Voivodeship , right on the border with the Volhynian Voivodeship and then joined the Russian Empire .

During the First World War , the place was directly on the Austro-Russian front. Mainly due to the Brusilov offensive , the place changed hands several times and there was considerable destruction. In a heavy attack on September 20, 1916, the Russian armed forces were able to break through north of Shelviv at Infantry Regiment No. 372 and take the place. On the same day, however, they were forced to retreat again by forces of Infantry Regiment No. 377 , 4th Lorraine Infantry Regiment No. 136 and Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 224 . On October 30, 1916, there was a serious attack on the village. and on November 19 and 20, 1916 there was again heavy fighting over the Szelwów estate and the Szelwów ski jump (the place was named in contemporary German-language war reports under the name "Szelwow" recorded on the war maps). On February 18, 1917, a section of the trench belonging to the 11th Infantry Division was blasted by a mine. In the section north of Shelviv, shock troops of the Russian armed forces often attacked.

In 1918/1921 it fell to Poland and officially got the Polish name Szelwów . There it came to the Volhynia Voivodeship in the Powiat Horochów , Gmina Chorów . As a result of the Hitler-Stalin Pact , the Soviet Union occupied the area. After the German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941, the village was under German rule until 1944 (in the Reichskommissariat Ukraine , General District Volhynia-Podolia , District Gorochow ) and came back to the Soviet Union after the Second World War , where it was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR . Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Shelviv has belonged to the independent Ukraine.
