The Bełz Voivodeship (Polish województwo bełskie , Latin Palatinatus Belzensis , Ukrainian Белзьке воєводство / Bels´ke voevodstvo ) was an administrative unit of the Polish-Lithuanian aristocratic republic in the Ruthenian part of the Lesser Poland Province . It consisted bis 1462 of 1772 / 1793 . Today the area is mainly in Ukraine and, to a lesser extent, in Poland .

history

After the principality of Bełz was withdrawn as a settled fiefdom by the Kingdom of Poland in 1462 , the Bełz Voivodeship was formed on the territory of the former principality. It existed until 1772, in a small part (the town of Dubenka (today Dubinki (Mostyska district) ) with associated villages) until 1793.

The region was economically highly developed, the central lifeline was the western Bug .

The voivodeship was the smallest in terms of area in today's Ukraine and the second poorest in population in the Polish-Lithuanian aristocratic republic .
