Ship set on Endelave
The ship's setting on Endelave was discovered in 2010 as part of an archaeological investigation of 78 scattered stones at Endelave's northern tip "Øvre".
Endelave is a Danish island , which is about 10 km from the Jutland mainland in the southwestern part of the Kattegat north of Fyn ( dt. : Funen ) in the region of Midtjylland is. The low and flat island has a size of 13.08 km².
description
Studies started in 2010 have shown that a collection of large rocks at Endelave's northern tip belong to a ship setting ( Danish skibssætning ) from the Viking Age (800-1050 AD). During the investigation, traces of the burial of a woman, which took place around 860 AD, were found. Due to the burials, archaeologists consider it certain that one - or more - ship settlements took place here. In Jutland today there are only four other places where ships are settled: Bække , Jelling , Højstrup and Lindholm , but some, like Endelave, are on land-based islands like Hjarnø .
