Schizobasis cuscutoides is a plant of the genus schizobasis in the family of asparagaceae (Asparagaceae). The specific epithet cuscutoides is derived from the Greek word -oides for 'similar' and the name of the genus Cuscuta .
description
Schizobasis cuscutoides grows with spherical onions with pale onion scales. The appearance and shape of young leaves is not known.
The one to three upright inflorescences reach a length of up to 15 centimeters. They are twisted at the knot . The 2 to 3 millimeter long bracts are spurred at their base. The flowers are on 0.5 to 1 centimeter long, arching flower stalks . The outspread tepals are white and up to 4 millimeters long.
Systematics and distribution
Schizobased cuscutoides is common in the south of Namibia and South Africa.
The first description as Asparagus cuscutoides by John Gilbert Baker was published in 1875. George Bentham and Joseph Dalton Hooker put the species in 1883 in the genus Schizobasis .
Synonyms are Drimia cuscutoides (Burch. Ex Baker) JCManning & Goldblatt (2000) and schizobasis schlechteri Baker (1901) and schizobasis buchubergensis Dinter (1932).
