The Schlösschen (also: Emilschlösschen ) is a building in Darmstadt .

Architecture and history

The small castle was built in the 19th century as a country house of noble Darmstadt families, free-standing with a view on the Chaussee to Frankfurt am Main (today: Frankfurter Straße ). In 1818, the castle , owned by Judge Justinian von Günderode , was entered in the newly created fire register of the city of Darmstadt.

The building consists of a two-storey, cubic block with winged buildings at the rear, some of which were built at the same time. The five-axis main facade is symmetrical outline and different windows in ground and first floor dominated. The central axis is accentuated by a balcony , a gate passage and smaller window gaps. The outer walls are made of quarry stone ; the walls were made of sandstone . The original low hipped roof with hanging truss has been preserved. The north facade of the building has small square window openings for the floor toilets .

Monument protection

There is a clear stylistic similarity to the Moranville house built in 1817 , a model house by Georg Mollers in the lower Rheinstrasse in Darmstadt. As a close relative of the development of the Mollerstadt - as it was propagated by Georg Moller himself in a type-defining way - the castle also has a unique documentary value. Because of the significant architectural quality of the classicist country house type and for reasons of city history, the building is a cultural monument .

The nursing home has been owned by the Darmstadt Clinic since 1996 . At the same time, the urban retirement home was renamed the Emilstrasse nursing home of the clinic . Today the castle houses the administration of the old people's and nursing home.
