history
At the beginning of the 19th century, Luisenstraße formed the western end of the built-up urban area. In 1806, Grand Duke Ludwig I of Hesse-Darmstadt set himself three goals with the development of the site west and south of Luisenstrasse: the creation of living space for additional civil servants, a better development of trade and commerce and the creation of a representative entrance for the young grand ducal residence. In 1810 he called the town planner and architect Georg Moller to Darmstadt to realize his intentions .
In the course of industrialization , the district changed from a residential area to a business district. The Second World War almost completely destroyed Mollerstadt and its population losses on the night of the fire on September 11, 1944 were the highest in the city. In the 1950s , the reconstruction took place largely on the historical city plan. A mixed use of residential, service, administration and retail was created.
Energetic urban redevelopment
On December 18, 2013, the municipal authorities of Darmstadt decided on an "integrated district concept for the energy-efficient urban renovation of Mollerstadt". The aim of the concept is to reduce the CO2 emissions from the quarter. For this purpose, a catalog of measures was drawn up, which includes the fields of action of energetic refurbishment of buildings, climate adaptation through greening , climate-friendly mobility and user awareness.
