The publisher quarter is a statistical district in western Darmstadt . It borders in the north on Rheinstrasse, in the west on Haardtring, in the east on Donnersbergring / Hindenburgstrasse and in the south on Bessunger Strasse.

history

The publishers' quarter is located on the area of ​​the former old parade ground . The parade ground (also: Alter Exert ) extended from Rheinstrasse to Eschollbrücker Strasse . After the Second World War , the military area was no longer needed by the military. The city of Darmstadt and the architect Kurt Jahn began to renovate the remains of the old barracks and use them again. One of the first industrial parks in Germany was built on the site . "Smokeless industry" was established in the publishing quarter. In 1950, the Darmstädter Echo moved to the publishers' quarter. Various other publishers and factories followed in the following years . The Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and its predecessor institutions have been on the site since the 1960s .

On the 16,500 square meter site of the former Prinovis print shop , between Haardtring and Berliner Allee, the "Berliner Carree" ( quarter for living and working) will be built by 2017 .
