The Darmstadt district of Darmstadt-West is directly adjacent to the city center. It extends in the north to Rheinstrasse (see Darmstadt-Nord ) and in the east to Bismarckstrasse or Donnersbergring (see Darmstadt-Mitte and Darmstadt-Bessungen ). The district has an area of 1515.9 hectares and around 18,000 inhabitants.
In the west, the district extends west of the federal highway 67 to the Griesheim district of Sankt Stephans-Siedlung , the area of the former military training area Griesheim with the August-Euler airfield , originally also Griesheim district.
Term Weststadt
The city of Darmstadt defines 9 districts, see list of districts of Darmstadt . This is where the West district is defined, not Weststadt. The term is apparently used primarily in the context of urban development, for example the “Weststadt project” was named in the 1998 social report for the forest colony, which aims to create an “urban location for trade, living and culture” there. A definition of the area is also given there: “The Weststadt is directly adjacent to the Darmstadt core city. It extends in the north to the Merck company and in the south to Eschollbrücker Strasse. ”This describes an area that not only includes parts of Darmstadt-West, but also parts of Darmstadt-North .
