Döhler GmbH

Döhler is one of the world's leading manufacturers of food additives . In Europe, Döhler is the market leader for essences for beverages. There are flavors and emulsions , natural colors, compounds, fruit preparations, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage bases, dairy bases, malt and cereal bases, sweetening and fruit and vegetable juices, purees and concentrates produced. On the basis of this product range, various services for developing new and further developing existing products are also offered.

Company history

Founding years and first entrepreneurial successes

A spice mill, which was founded by Lorenz Döhler in Erfurt in 1838 , is the headquarters of the Döhler Group. Wilhelm Gemmer took over the company in 1892 . The group of companies is still family-owned today. In 1924 Leo Gemmer took over the management and led the company into an expansion phase. He founded two production plants in which new branded items are manufactured, such as "Döhler pudding", "Backfein" and "Backstolz".

Relocation, innovation and expansion

Expropriated by the administration of what was then the eastern zone in 1948, the Gemmer family moved to the west. The company expanded its product portfolio in 1952 by offering raw materials and flavors for the soft drinks industry. Darmstadt became the new headquarters in 1957 and a long phase of innovation and expansion followed , during which German competitors such as Olymparom Essences or Wallerstein were taken over.

internationalization

With the acquisition of Citrusco NV, a Belgian company, the Döhler Group took the first step towards expansion beyond German borders in 1982. In 1986 the company entered the market for chunky fruit preparations for the milk and ice cream industry. After opening the markets to western companies, the group of companies founded subsidiaries in India , Russia , Poland and the Czech Republic in 1990 .

In 1995 Euro-Citrus in Oosterhout ( Netherlands ) and in 2001 Dinter GmbH in Neuenkirchen were acquired. In between, further locations were founded in PR China (1996), Brazil (1997) and Dubai (2000). Further collaborations and acquisitions followed in recent years, such as the partnership with ALKO International in the Netherlands (2005) or Innoval Döhler in Mexico (2006). Additional production facilities were also set up in China, Brazil and Russia (2006–2008).

In 2007, the carried acquisition of fruit juice division of Jahncke with plants in Poland and Ukraine. In addition, a stake in Bonjuice, a modern production and service company for the beverage and food industry, was acquired. In cooperation with Ruland Engineering & Consulting GmbH, the Döhler Group now also offers the planning and construction of blending systems and syrup rooms.

Döhler today

At the Darmstadt site, further expansions were completed with the new customer and communication center (2004) and the new aroma plant (2011). Döhler now has 23 production sites, 48 ​​sales offices and application sites and is active in over 130 countries. More than 7,000 employees work for Döhler worldwide.
