A few species are also found on the coasts of Korea and southern Japan, as well as on the north coast of Taiwan . One species, the Atlantic mudskipper ( Periophthalmus barbarus ), lives on the coast of West Africa from Angola to Senegal .
Way of life
Oxudercinae live amphibiously in salt water or brackish water . Only a few species go up the rivers into fresh water. While dealing mudskippers ( Periophthalmus ) are preferred on land, in the wet mud and mangroves staying roots and at the onset of flood jump inland, the other species usually remain in the water and bounce just short of a low tide tümpel to the next. The fish are territory-forming and defend small territories or ponds against rivals.
They are 5 to 27 centimeters long , depending on the species .
