The Bad Abbach lock was built as part of the Bad Abbach barrage construction measure and has a usable length of 190 m and a usable width of 12 m.

It was completed in 1978 and is located in the Bad Abbach lock canal, which was built west of the Danube . The associated weir system is about 3 km away at the Bad Abbach run-of-river power station in the Poikam district at river kilometer 2401.74.

The chamber of the single lock is in the weir arm at Danube kilometer 2397.2. The kilometering of the Danube in the Bad Abbach lock shows a missing stretch of 1.5 kilometers.

The drop height of the lock is 5.70 m. The expansion target at the associated weir of the Bad Abbach power plant is 338.20 m above sea level. The lock is remote-controlled from the control center of the water and shipping administration in Regensburg . The Straubing , Regensburg and Geisling locks are also remotely controlled from this control center . Originally, the Bad Abbach lock was controlled from the lock tower on site.
