Sphincter (ligament)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sphincter was a German fun punk band from the late 1980s and early 1990s from Hamminkeln . Together with groups like the Mimmi's and the Falling Carrier Pigeons , they were among the most famous German bands of the genre.

Band history

After the band was founded in 1983 by Ede Wolff (guitar), Schlaffke Wolff (vocals), Techt Tetmeyer (drums) and Böckler Hachenberg (bass), their debut album Komm setz 'dich zu uns (EP, We Bite Rec. ) Was released in 1986 , one year later the first long-playing record downfall of western culture . For the next several years, Sphincter played alongside punk greats like the Spermbirds , MDC and the Adicts .

In 1990, sphincter was a participant in the “Festival of Volx Music”, which brought together the most important German fun punk performers. The publication Less Fat, More Muscles (Mini-LP / CD), published in the same year, reached four-digit sales and stayed in the independent charts for weeks .

In the mid-1990s, things calmed down for the group that split from their record label . In 1993 the musicians appeared as the opening act for the Toten Hosen . The name was changed to "The Muscles", and in the following years the band withdrew, but continued to release records, in 2000 again under the old band name.

After the group withdrew from the music scene, singer Schlaffke Wolff began a musical solo project under the name " Zwakkelmann ", which however had no comparable success.

At the end of 2005, however, the band got together again under their original name and with the original line-up and played in Pneumatics Oberhausen and in early 2006 in Zeche Carl in Essen . Rumors of a reunion were rejected.

On December 28, 2013 there was another highly acclaimed appearance as part of the “Punk im Pott” festival in the Turbinenhalle Oberhausen. The original line-up was played again. The occasion was the 30th anniversary of the stage.

style

The sphincter itself has always rejected the classification under the music style "fun punk" according to its own statements and valued itself more as a hardcore or punk band with elements from u. a. Hit .
