The Žinkovy Castle is located in the village of Žinkovy (German: Zinkau , Schinkau ) in western Bohemia in the Okres Plzeň-jih (Plzeň region) in the Czech Republic .

history

The history of Žinkovy Castle goes back to the year 1559, when Šebastián von Klenová had a fortress built by the “Labut” (German swan ) pond . The building was surrounded by a moat , which was supplied with water from this pond. The fort was by a drawbridge with the bailey connected.

From 1624 to 1642 a new castle was built in place of the fortress, which was gradually expanded into a three-winged baroque building in the classicism style .

Johann Nepomuk von Harrach (1828–1909) bought the castle in 1883 and renovated it with partial reconstruction. The biggest changes were made after 1897 when the large landowner and kk building officer Karl Ritter von Wessely († 1912, age: 71) acquired the castle and built it according to the plans of Hermann Helmer (1849-1919), after whose design the Palais Wessely ( Allee-Gasse 23, today: Argentinierstraße 23, Vienna-Wieden ) was completed in 1892, and was remodeled with references to romanticism . The old moat was filled in and a large park was created behind the property.

In 1916 the castle became the property of the industrialist Karl von Škoda (1878–1929). In January 1918, parts of the rear wing of the castle were destroyed by fire.

In the summer of 1920 Robert von Škoda (age: 68), Emil's brother, died in the castle .

In 1925, Karl von Škoda, in Austria since 1919, sold over 230 hectares of associated land.

After the Second World War it went to the ROH (State Workers' Union) and from then on was used for recreation for workers. This period, when Žinkovy was known throughout the ČSSR, left its mark on the interior.

The castle has been owned by a foreign investor since 1999.
