Bracht Castle

Schloss Bracht is a castle in the Belgian town of Bracht .

history

The Brachter Castle is located in the middle of the village and was built from 1782 to 1785 on behalf of Georg Friedrich August Ferrand von Montigny (1705–1790), whose tombstone can be found in the St. Hubertus chapel in Weweler. In the 19th century, the von Montigny family left the Eifel and gave up the castle. It then passed into the possession of the grandfather of the current owner, Hilar Kaut. The coat of arms of the Montigny family, which features swords and a leaping lion, can still be found on the back of the building. In the 1970s, the castle was the location of the film Winterspelt by director Eberhard Fechner based on the novel by Alfred Andersch .

description

The castle consists of a regular, modest, three-wing complex of farm buildings and a manor house. The manor house has a large flight of stairs on the courtyard side, in front of which the year 1884 can be seen in the pavement. The year 1780 can be seen on a cast iron fireback next to the coat of arms of the Montigny family. The house chapel with pilaster decoration and stucco ceiling is located in the central axis of the upper floor.
