The Schloss Ernegg is located in the cadastral Ernegg the Lower Austrian market town Steinakirchen am Forst . The castle is used as a hotel and is located at Ernegg 1 .
history
At first there was a castle belonging to the Hofmark Steinakirchen of the Bishop of Regensburg on the site of the castle in the hamlet of Ernegg . In the 16th century, a four-sided castle with a protruding corner tower and an arcade courtyard with a protruding stair tower was built on the castle plateau with a steep embankment to the Kleine Erlauf . From 1527 the builders were Wolfgang von Öder zu Götzendorf and his descendants, from 1596 Reichard Streun von Schwarzenau . The castle has been owned by the Counts of Auersperg from 1656 until today .
Castle complex
The four-sided three-storey building with a hipped roof and some with dormers has the main entrance with a round arch to the west, the facades are different and mostly irregularly structured depending on the construction time. In the south-western corner, the chapel projects to the south and is closed off by a round tower. The chapel with groin vault is mentioned in a document in 1330 and was consecrated to St. Bartholomew in 1675 . The inner courtyard is at an oblique angle and has three-story arcades on three sides with pseudo-architectural wall paintings and a south-western staircase. There are no porticos on the north side and a stair tower is presented on the inner courtyard facade.
Landscaped garden
To the west of the castle is a landscape garden from the 19th century with an access avenue with spruce trees. An obelisk commemorates Joseph Graf von Auersperg, who died in the Battle of Austerlitz .
