Hirschberg Castle (Saale)
The Hirschberg Castle is a baroque building in Hirschberg (Saale) , Saale-Orla district , Thuringia .
history
The building was built in 1678 in the Baroque style. The story goes back further: in 1296 it was an imperial and in 1397 a Bohemian fief. In 1652 it passed to the Reussian fiefdom.
Heinrich X. Reuss zu Lobenstein (1621–1671) bought the castle in 1664. His son Count Heinrich VIII Reuss zu Hirschberg (1652–1711) resided and ruled here from 1678 until his death in 1711. He arranged for the new castle to be built. The castle later served as a summer residence.
In 1920 the state of Thuringia took over the property. Since then it has been mainly used for residential purposes.
The castle is located on a ledge that allows a view of the city of Hirschberg.
