Külml Castle

The Külml Castle is located in the village of Külml in Oberfeistritz in the market town of Anger in the Weiz district in Styria . The castle is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

In the 14th century there was a residence of the Stubenberg Knights von Kulm near the mountain Kulm above the Feistritztal . After different owners, ownership went to the Pöllau Abbey in 1650 . Provost Michael Josef Maister had a new building built. A building inscription mentions 1688. According to a building inscription on the southern facade, the property was probably completed in 1700. Its construction began with the builder Rochus Orsolino and was completed in 1692 with the builder Josef Schmerlaib. The castle served as a place of relaxation for the Augustinian canons of the monastery. From 1811 to 1954 the castle belonged to the noble Gudenus family . The castle has been owned by the Styrian children's rescue organization since 1954. The castle was renovated from 1958 to 1960. In 1978 it was acquired by Ing Walter Harwalik, who occasionally made it available for cultural events. Another restoration is currently in progress. It is carried out by the new owner, List Holding GmbH.

architecture

The two-storey building extends around a rectangular pillar arcade courtyard. The main front with a central ridge turret and risalit-like building parts protruding on both sides is in the east. The central rustikaportal with front gable and stone coat of arms mentions 1698. The former fortifications on and around the castle, among other things two corner towers on the west side, were demolished in the 18th and 19th centuries.

In the northeast corner room and the former dining room there is a stucco ceiling with fresco cartouches by Antonio Maderni (1690) with a stucco coat of arms of the provost Maister. In the former library there is a stucco ceiling with a central fresco depicting a music-making Apollo , signed and dated AMF 1690. On the wall, a fresco shows an old view of Külml.
