The Le Moulin Castle belongs to the French community Lassay-sur-Croisne in Loir-et-Cher region Center-Val de Loire . The free-standing, rectangular moated castle , whose broad moats are fed by the Croisne , was built by the court architect Jacques de Persigny between 1480 and 1500 and extensively restored in 1947 . After it was inscribed in the list of monuments (French: inscrit) in January 1926, it was classified ( French classé ) as Monument historique on April 27, 1927 .

history

The stable master Philippe du Moulin, who was supposed to save Charles VIII's life during the Battle of Fornovo in 1495 , was allowed in 1490 to fortify his residence at Lassay-sur-Croisne, which was currently under construction. The grateful king helped his childhood friend to a rich wife, the widow of Jean d'Harcourt, made him his chamberlain and counselor and entrusted him with the rule of Langres , where he died in 1506.

architecture

The iron-studded, oak gates of the entrance castle date from the time the castle was built and were previously protected by a drawbridge . The coat of arms of Philippe du Moulins is placed above the gate: "D'Azur à trois Fasces d'Argent" (German: "In blue three silver bars").

From the original castle, which was surrounded by a moat and protective walls with four corner towers, only the keep , the castle tower, the two entrance towers and part of the protective walls, which are now covered, as well as a building at the time of Louis XIII. raised tower.

Le Moulin is a good example of the combination of stone and brick . The glazed bricks were put together in patterns, as was extremely popular in the country estates on the Loire at the end of the 15th century . The residential wing is typical of manorial residences from this time. A spiral staircase in a square tower leads to the living rooms, which are spread over several levels, and to a branch in the round half-tower built on the outer facade. At the foot of the residential wing there is an elegant oratorio in the flamboyant style .
