The Ostrov City Castle (German Schlackenwerth Castle , formerly also Schlick Castle ) is a historical building complex in Ostrov nad Ohří ( Schlackenwerth ) in northern Bohemia .

history

The settlement of Zlaucowerde, established by Slauko the Great and first mentioned in 1207, was protected by a fortress that Emperor Sigismund pledged to his Chancellor Kaspar Schlick in 1434 together with the Elbogen district . After the dominion was divided in 1489, Kaspar II. Schlick built a new Renaissance castle on the site of the fortress, which became the seat of the Schlackenwerther line of the Schlick. The basement rooms are the clearest evidence of the Renaissance redesign of the originally Gothic vaults from the time of the greatest boom (early 16th century) of silver mining in the Ore Mountains by Count Schlick.

In 1585 the town of Schlackenwerth acquired the rule, but was expropriated in 1623 because of its participation in the class uprising . The imperial general Julius Heinrich von Sachsen-Lauenburg became the new owner of the castle and the manor . The city palace was rebuilt to its current baroque form after a fire in 1691.

The restored city palace has been used as a town hall and library since 2015. After the cellar vaults have been expanded, they are used for celebrations.

Castle Park

In the middle of the palace park is the summer palace "Bílý dvůr" ( White Palace ), also known as the Prince's Palace , built by Abraham Leuthner from 1673 to 1679 , with rich wall and ceiling decorations, which today serves as an art gallery.
