Ramingdorf Castle

The Ramingdorf Castle is Ramingdorf in the municipality Behamberg in District Amstetten of Lower Austria (Ramingdorf 1, 2), about 2 km northeast of Steyr .

history

The name of the castle is derived from the nearby Ramingbach (formerly also called Rubinicha , Remnik , Ravminck or Remnickch ). The Hinterholzer, also named after their ancestral seat Retzenwinkler, were enfeoffed with the seat of Ramingdorf first by the Starhembergern and then in 1309 by the Wallseern . The brothers Dietrich and Otto and their children Andre, Reinhart and Peter are mentioned by the Hinterholzers in 1332. The imperial keeper of Steyer, Peter Hinterholzer, owned Ramingdorf around 1370. In 1436, Wolfgang Hinterholzer zu Ramingdorf awarded various goods and tithes in the parish of Haidershofen. The name Ramyckdorf is mentioned in 1436. A Jakob Hinterholzer was knighted in Aachen in 1486 on the occasion of the coronation of the Roman-German King Maximilian I. As early as 1467 he was from Emperor Friedrich III. was enfeoffed with the rule of Salaberg . He also owned the Zeillern , Moldt and Ramingdorf castles . The Hinterholzer family died out with a Peter Hinterholzer in 1504.

In 1499, Jakob Hinterholzer had already sold the Ramingdorf estate to Appolonia Prantstetter from Steyr. From this the son Hans Prandstetter († 1521), dealer with Venedigerwaren in Steyr, inherited the property. In 1508 he received a letter of arms from Emperor Maximilian I. In 1514 he was mayor of Steyr. After the Wallseern in 1491 the Counts Schaunberg became the feudal lords of Ramingdorf. In 1516 Georg von Schaunberg freed the court in Ramingdorf and the barren walls there from the feudal bond. Heir was Hans Prandstetter the Younger, married to Elisabeth Kiemser von Klingenberg . Their daughter Anna had married the innkeeper Hans Forster (Hansen Vorster) in 1548; after she died childless in 1555, she bequeathed her property, including Ramingdorf, to her husband († 1563). The noble estate Ramingdorf came into the possession of Wolfgang (Handl) Händl through purchase in 1567 and from then on he called himself von und zu Ramingdorf. Wolf Händl († 1595) was mayor of Steyr several times and was married three times. Through his marriages he came into the possession of Piberbach and Weyer . Berchtold inherited Ramingdorf and Piberbach from his seven children. Since he died childless, ownership passed to Wolfgang Händl the Younger († 1625). This Wolfgang was accepted into the lower Austrian knighthood in 1623. His successor was his son Wolf Heinrich, married to Eva Salome Hacklberger von Hohenberg. Wolf Maximilian Händl inherited Ramingdorf from his two sons in 1656. He was married twice, and Wolf Christoph inherited the property from his four sons and one daughter. Because of his debts he had to sell Ramingdorf and left the country.

In 1672 a Ranfftl (Räfftl) appears to be the owner of Ramingdorf. However, Wolf Ferdinand Händl, son from Wolf Heinrich's second marriage, was able to buy back Ramingdorf because of the large property that his wife Susanna von Weitling brought him back. In 1720 a wolf owned Ferdinand Händl Ramingdorf. He died unmarried and without children († 1762). Thereupon Franz Leopold Händl took over the inheritance in 1763. With his death in 1766, the family of the Handel von Ramingdorf died out. Due to the last will, Ramingdorf was sold to Joachim Mechtl von Engelsperg in 1768; the proceeds were used for a foundation that was supposed to provide support to the former subjects in the event of accidents.

The other owners of Ramingdorf were: Franz Adam Maurer von Kronsegg (1783), his wife Maria Anna in 1795, also in 1795 Joseph von Kal Maßy and his wife Maria Josefa, née Countess von Salburg, Eugen Ritter von Kriegshaber, Johann Benz and his wife Katharina ( 1817), Johann von Frank and his wife Katharina (1819). Engelbert Dorn and his wife Maria Anna set up a brewery in Ramingdorf (1819); this family remained the owners of Ramingdorf for three generations. The Dorns had the facades renewed after 1830. In 1905 Johann and Juliana Schreihofer bought the property, but sold it to Gottlob Friedrich Lell in 1907. In 1927 the castle was bought by Siegfried Kammel-Hardegger. At short notice, the castle came to the completely destitute real estate swindler Eduard Reichert in 1934. In 1935 it came back to the brother Karl of Siegfried Kammel-Hardegger (Karl Kammer Edler von Hardegger). In 1953 Ramingdorf fell to the siblings Karl and Helene Kammel-Hardegger (married soot beetles); the latter was paid out and Karl, who called himself Karl Hardegger since 1966, became the sole owner in 1971. His son Karl is the current owner and runs a farm.

Building description

The castle in its present form dates from the 16th century, but has been changed several times since then. As an engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer from 1672 shows, Ramingdorf was originally a moated castle . A wooden bridge led across the moat, the castle was surrounded by a wall reinforced with loopholes, round towers and conical roofs. Remains of the moat have been preserved behind the castle. The castle building itself was and is three-story with a steep hipped roof. The floor space is only about 10 × 12 m. Ramingdorf has three window axes on the front and four on the transverse side. A two-winged entrance staircase leads to an entrance gate, which is crowned by a square tower with a clock. Above the door there is a coat of arms, presumably of the Dorn family. The round corner turrets (pepper boxes) are equipped with loopholes and conical roofs. The facade design was created around 1830. The castle building seems to be falling into disrepair; the roofing of the outside staircase is only sparsely supported with a beam.

In front of the castle are a meierhof and several outbuildings, the former brewery and a chapel built in 1939. The former palace chapel in one of the round towers no longer exists. The farm yard and outbuildings date from the 19th century.
