history

Already in the Middle Ages , a castle controlled the passage over the Cher on an old Roman road from Bordeaux to Bourges . In the 13th century, Jean des Barres , Seigneur of La Guerche , sold the castle and its lands, which from then on belonged to Bourges. As a result, a center for the royal navy was established here with harbors on both sides of the bridge.

During the Hundred Years' War , the castle had to endure many sieges , which left little of the complex. However , it was rebuilt in the late Middle Ages and restored again around 1562 . In the 17th century, Henri II, prince de Condé , acquired the Seigneurie Saint-Florent. He was followed by his son, Louis II. De Bourbon , who died in the civil war in 1686.

The property changed hands frequently until the end of the 19th century. M. Brunet bought it in 1880 and used his time and money to transform the medieval building into an elegant castle in the style of Louis XII. to remodel. Only the gatehouse was largely spared. The main building, leaning against a round tower from the 15th century, captivates with its attractive, white composite of bricks , its large terrace with balustrade and its magnificent double flight of stairs .
