Wiesenburg Castle

The Wiesenburg Castle is located in Wildenfelser district Wiesenburg on a hill above the south bank of the river Mulde in Saxony . The facility covered the Muldenbrücke to Schönau and Wildenfels and was the center of the Wiesenburg rule . Legends tell of a secret passage that connects the castle with a "robbery castle" in Kiefricht (a small wood on the other side of the Muldental).

Structural systems

Today's castle emerged from a medieval castle complex . Its construction probably began around the year 1200. In 1251 the hill fort was first mentioned in a document. The facility was expanded in the 14th century.

From the original castle only part of the round keep , remains of the curtain wall and a moat are preserved. Today's inner courtyard with its half-timbered buildings and the octagonal gate tower were built during the reconstruction after the Thirty Years' War in 1664.

History and owner

The first owners were the bailiffs of Weida , who monitored the settlement of the Kirchberg basin and the Mulde area southeast of Zwickau from here . More than twenty villages of the Wiesenburg rulership , for example all settlements in the Rödelbachtal , were subject to compulsory payment . Later the owners changed several times. In 1350 the castle came under Wettin sovereignty. From 1412 to 1591 the von der Planitz family owned the castle. In 1523, before the Peasants' War , the castle was plundered by their fron farmers. The city of Zwickau bought the castle and its territory in 1591, and in 1618 it was acquired by the Saxon elector . The rulership and the city of Kirchberg were sold to Philipp Ludwig von Holstein-Sonderburg in 1663 . In 1724 the rule went to August the Strong , who formed the Wiesenburg office from this . The Palas collapsed 1,803th In 1864 the castle and the chamber property were separated and the castle was sold to the district poor association. A poor house was located in the castle from 1864 to 1911 before it was bought back in 1911. In 1945 the castle became state- owned . Numerous apartments have been set up in the complex. The farm buildings were used by the local LPG .

Since the reunification, the castle has been privately owned again. The facility is not open to the public.
