description

Vegetative characteristics

The narrow-winged bug seed grows as an annual herbaceous plant that reaches heights of about 10 to 60 centimeters. It is branched at the bottom. Young branches are usually bare, rarely hairy with branched trichomes . The alternately arranged leaves are sitting. The little or hardly fleshy leaf blade is flat, lanceolate to linear, with entire margins and acuminate.

Inflorescence and flower

Bracts with fruits

In dense to very elongated, spiked inflorescences , the flowers sit individually in the axilla of a leaf-like, broadly egg-shaped bract , which is at least as wide as the fruit. Bracteoles are missing. The flowers are hermaphroditic. The flower envelope consists of a dry-skinned scales, which does not survive the flowering period ( anthesis ). There are usually three stamens present. The pollen grains are of the "Chenopodium type". The spherical ovary has two free stigma branches. The flowering period extends from July to September.

fruit

The fruit is clearly compressed, broadly ovoid, with supporting tissue made from macrosklereids . At the edge the fruit is winged narrow, the membranous wings are at most a quarter as wide as the seed and entire. The vertical seeds contain a horseshoe-shaped embryo that surrounds the abundant nutrient tissue ( perisperm ).

Chromosome number

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.

Distribution and habitat

The narrow-winged bug seed is common in Europe in the submeridional Florence zone and in the temperate zone. It has been found in Germany since around 1849 and is considered a naturalized neophyte . It grows in dry, sandy ruderal spots , for example on river banks, on railway systems and on inland dunes. In Central Europe it is a type of Bromo-Corispermetum from the Salsolion association, but also occurs in other societies of the Sisymbrietalia order.

Systematics

The first description of Corispermum intermedium was made in 1812 by August Friedrich Schweigger in Konigsberg Arch. Natural Sciences. Math. 1, p. 211. Synonyms of Corispermum intermedium Schweigg. are Corispermum gallicum Iljin , Corispermum leptopterum (Asch.) Iljin , Corispermum pallasii Steven and Corispermum hyssopifolium var. leptopterum Asch.

Corispermum intermedium belonging to the genus Corispermum in the tribe Corispermeae , the only tribes of the subfamily Corispermoideae within the family of amaranthaceae (Amaranthaceae). It used to be part of the goosefoot family (Chenopodiaceae).
