Schmidrüti is a hamlet in the municipality of Turbenthal in Switzerland .

location

The hamlet lies at an altitude of 810  m above sea level. M. on Zurich soil, right on the border with the canton of Thurgau . Schmidrüti is located in the Töss Valley in the Winterthur district and is surrounded by the municipality of Turbenthal .

General

Around 90 people live in Schmidrüti, with only around 36 residents at home in the actual village center.

Guided missile base

From 1968 Schmidrüti was one of six positions in the Swiss Air Force that were equipped with the anti-aircraft guided missile system BL-64 . Eight guided missile launchers and 16 guided missiles were stationed on an area of ​​8.5 hectares. The facility, which was classified as secret until 1999, was closed before the turn of the millennium and the location is now used by the Swiss Army for medical training .

The actor and cabaret artist Schaggi Streuli , who moved away from Schmidrüti during the construction phase, was not very enthusiastic about the missile position .

Trivia

The "Ufologists" association FIGU, founded by Eduard Albert Meier , expects a visit from the Plejars at Schmidrüti.
