The snow-loosestrife ( Lysimachia clethroides ) or duckbill loosestrife is a plant from the genus Gilbweiderich ( Lysimachia ).
features
The snow loosestrife is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 60 to 100 cm. It forms subterranean runners. The leaves are oblong or broadly lanceolate, over 2 inches wide, 7 to 11 inches long and alternate. Their underside is not dotted with glands. The inflorescence is curved. The inflorescence axis and peduncle are sparsely hairy. The flowers are five-fold. The crown is white.
The flowering period extends from July to September.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
The snow loosestrife is found in Japan, Korea and China on sunny, grassy slopes.
use
The snow loosestrife is rarely used as an ornamental plant for perennial beds and as a cut flower. The species has been in culture since 1869 at the latest.
