Amalie of Brandenburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amalie von Brandenburg (born October 1, 1461 on the Plassenburg ; † September 3, 1481 in Baden-Baden ) was Princess of Brandenburg and, by marriage, Count Palatine and Duchess of Zweibrücken and Veldenz .

Life

Amalie was the eldest daughter of the Brandenburg Elector Albrecht Achilles (1414–1486) from his second marriage to Anna (1436–1512), daughter of Elector Friedrich II of Saxony .

At the age of four, Amalie was engaged to the Count Palatine and Duke Kaspar von Zweibrücken (1458–1527) after her older half-sister Margarete broke off their engagement with him. The wedding took place ten years later on April 19, 1478 in Zweibrücken . As Wittum, Amalie was assured of the Neukastel Castle, Bergzabern , Annweiler , the Herxheim farm , the Falkenburg and Haßloch community .

Amalie left her husband and returned to her father when Kaspar began to show signs of "frenzy". Amalie fell seriously ill when she was not yet 20 years old and traveled to Baden to the local Wildbad, where she died. A violent dispute broke out between Ludwig and Kaspar about the Wittum , which her father-in-law Ludwig tried to move back in, because Kaspar did not want to return the property.
