Anna of Saxony (1437–1512)
Anna of Saxony (born March 7, 1437 in Meißen , † October 31, 1512 in Neustadt an der Aisch ) was a princess of Saxony and was elector of Brandenburg by marriage .
Life
Anna was a daughter of Elector Friedrich II of Saxony (1412–1464) from his marriage to Margarete (1416 / 7–1486), daughter of Duke Ernst of Austria.
On November 12, 1458, Anna married the future Elector Albrecht of Brandenburg, also known as Albrecht Achilles (1414–1486), in Ansbach . In order to tie the connection between Wettin and Hohenzollern even closer, the marriage contract also planned the connection of Anna's brother Albrecht, known as the brave, with Albrecht Achilles' daughter Ursula , but both Albrecht and Ursula later married children of the Bohemian King Georg von Podebike .
The Wittum was designated for Anna Amt and Schloss Hoheneck , Leutershausen and Colmberg . Through her marriage, Anna became the stepmother of the four children Albrecht Achilles' first marriage to Margarete von Baden . In 1470 Albrecht Achilles, who until then held all of the Franconian possessions of the Hohenzollern family, became Elector of Brandenburg. In 1473 Anna agreed to the house law, which made the Mark Brandenburg indivisible, but the Franconian possessions could be divided among several sons, which meant that Johann Cicero , Albrecht's son by first marriage, became Elector of Brandenburg, while Anna's two sons became the Franconian possessions inherited.
Albrecht Achilles determined in his will that Anna was entitled to income and right of residence in Neustadt an der Aisch, Erlangen , Dachsbach , Liebenow and Baiersdorf , but that the sons should keep the sovereign sovereignty. Anna survived her husband by 26 years and, after initially living with her son Friedrich in Ansbach, from 1487 lived mostly in Neustadt an der Aisch, which her brother had assigned her as a widow's residence and where she lived in a relatively lavish court. Anna was buried in Heilsbronn Monastery; the tumba of her tomb, built around 1502, is still preserved.
