The high-speed line Madrid – Valladolid is a Spanish , standard-gauge railway - high-speed line . It connects the capital Madrid with the northwestern provincial capital Valladolid over a length of 180 km .

With the opening of the route, which costs around 4.5 billion euros , the journey time , with a stop in Segovia , has been reduced from more than two and a half hours to 56 minutes. The route length has been reduced by 69 km compared to the winding old route. The line's top speed is 350 km / h, which is not being used for operational purposes for the time being.

The Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range is crossed under the 28.4 km long Guadarrama Tunnel , the longest tunnel in Spain.

To the north joins the planned 163 km long high-speed line Valladolid-Venta de Baños-Palencia-León .

history

The route was opened on December 22nd, 2007 by Spain's Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero .

It is to be extended further to northern Spain in the future.

business

The track is since end of December 2007 daily from eight Alvia - pairs of trains (with multiple units of the series 130 250 km / h) and five AVE -Zugpaaren (series 102 , with 300 km / h) traveled. The re-gauging Alvia trains run beyond Valladolid in the existing broad-gauge network further north.

Platform tracks 16 to 21 in Madrid-Chamartín station were re-gauged for regular lane operation, and track 15 has been prepared for this. Until the regular-lane tunnel connection is put into operation, they end under the bridge reception building. Until then, the line is a regular- gauge island operation in the broad-gauge network. The exchange of vehicles from vehicles that cannot be re-tracked is only possible with the use of wide-gauge roller stands.
