Schulzensee (Sperenberg)

The Schulzensee is a 3-hectare lake near the municipality of Am Mellensee in the Teltow-Fläming district , Brandenburg ( Germany ).

Geographical location

The lake is located around 40 km (as the crow flies ) south of Berlin-Mitte in the Kummersdorf Forest, west of Kummersdorf (a small district of Am Mellensee ) and west-northwest of Sperenberg (also a district of Am Mellensee ). From a geomorphological point of view, the lake lies in a basin , a hollow form of the earth's surface without any drainage.

About two kilometers (as the crow flies) northeast of the Schulzensee is the Benedictine Abbey of St. Gertrud near the small Alexanderdorf , which was founded in 1934 and elevated to an abbey in 1984 . About just as far south of the lake is the site of the former Sperenberg military airfield , which was not open to the public until the final withdrawal of the Soviet troops (1994). In the 1990s, discussions were held about expanding it into a major Berlin-Brandenburg airport .

Nature reserve

The Schulzensee is surrounded by a nature reserve . As early as 1916, the area at the Schulzensee was placed under nature protection by the local forest authority and recognized in 1937 under the nature protection law of the German Reich .

On and around the Schulzensee, which is surrounded by a wooded landscape, there are numerous aquatic and wetland plants, including: ferns , bog birches , cranberries , whistle grass , reeds , black alder , sundew , Scots pine , pennywort and cotton grass .

The Schulzensee is located in the Kummersdorf forest away from roads, but can be reached via various forest and hiking trails - for example coming from Kummersdorf or Sperenberg.
