Schwaben Bräu

Schwaben Bräu is a former Swabian brewery and today's beer brand of Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu GmbH & Co. KG. The brewery was founded in 1878 by Robert Leicht under the name of Bier-Brauerei Robert Leicht in what is now the Stuttgart district of Vaihingen .

In 1897 Schwaben Bräu was the first brewery in Germany to deliver beer by truck . As early as 1903, the brewery had an automatic bottle filling system . The Schwaben Bräu Cup was held for the first time in 1977 , a cycling race that also took place in 1987 as part of the Tour de France . At the beginning of the 1980s, Schwaben Bräu took over the Pfullinger brewery Sigel-Klosterbräu. In 1994 the actually competing breweries Schwaben Bräu and Dinkelacker opened a joint logistics center under the name Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu Logistik (DSL) . In 1996 Schwaben Bräu merged with Dinkelacker to form Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu AG. In 2003, InBev , the Spaten-Franziskaner-Brau GmbH, which held the majority of the former Dinkelacker-Schwaben Braeu AG. Schwaben Bräu belonged to InBev until December 31, 2006, but has been independent again since January 2, 2007 together with Dinkelacker under the name Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu GmbH & Co. KG. In 2003, for the 125th anniversary of the brewery, a beer mug with a capacity of 1.25 liters was released in a limited special edition.

Schwaben Bräu is one of the four brewery tents at the Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart, the second largest festival in Germany. The three other brewery tents are operated by Fürstenberg , Dinkelacker and Stuttgarter Hofbräu . Michael Wilhelmer has been the host of the Schwaben Bräu festival tent since 2009. In 2013 the annual output was around 800,000 hectoliters .

A Bock beer (Heller Bock), a folk festival beer and a Christmas beer are brewed as seasonal beers . With the exception of the Kloster Pilsner and Kloster Spezial varieties , all beers are delivered in swing-top bottles .
