Schwabendorf is part of the large community of Rauschenberg in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district in Hesse .
The place is on the edge of the castle forest . From 1821 to 1932 he belonged to what was then the Kirchhain district . To the north, federal road 3 and state road 3077 meet .
In Schwabendorf there is a village community center and a Protestant church .
history
The village was founded in 1687. At that time 116 French religious refugees, Huguenots and Waldensians , settled here . On the central village square, Huguenot Square, a memorial stone commemorates the names of the immigrant families. A wetland to the northwest, which was partly left to the settlers for use, is still known today as French meadows.
On December 31, 1971 Schwabendorf was incorporated into the city of Rauschenberg.
From July 4th to 8th 2012 the 325th anniversary of Schwabendorf was celebrated.
Huguenot Memorial Church
Instead of the old half-timbered church built in 1711, a new church was built in 1875. In 1887 the church received an organ. This was a present for the 200th anniversary of the town from Kaiser Wilhelm I. Until 1917 the church was equipped with three bronze bells. The smallest from 1770, the middle one from 1839, the largest from 1902. During the First World War, the two larger ones had to be melted down. In 1919 this was replaced in exchange for the smallest. In 1930, two works of art were made from the legacy of Henriette Moutoux (her ancestors emigrated to California): The dragon slayer "Ritter Georg" and the commemorative image "Exodus of the Huguenots" (David and Goliath) were made by the community. These remind of the religious struggle and the persecution of the Huguenots in France. Since then, the church has been called the "Huguenot Memorial Church". In 1937 a sandstone pulpit was installed, which replaced the wood-paneled pulpit from 1888. In 1955 the choir window, which was destroyed by a lightning strike, was replaced by the work of art "The risen Christ" based on a design by the former Schwabendorf pastor Johanna Schütz-Wolff.

Local heating
Since the end of November 2011, a biogas plant has been running on the grounds of the Schwabendorfer local farmer, which he operates with two other farmers from the region. Also in November, a cooperative was founded in the village to set up a local heating network and remove the waste heat from the biogas plant. The cooperative members then use this heat for heating and hot water. The plan in the meantime to increase the capacities through a woodchipping plant was abandoned again, since the capacities of the plant are sufficient to supply the 70 members with heat. The construction work is also being used by the Marburg municipal utilities, which are laying a fiber optic cable for high-speed internet parallel to the local heating system. The local heating network has been in operation since the beginning of 2013.
