The Swiss School Mexico was founded in 1965 with 135 students in a house on Calle Eugenia. In 1968 the lower secondary level and in 1971 the secondary level II opened. In 1981 new rooms for the kindergarten and a sports field were inaugurated on newly acquired land. Secondary school B was first offered on the Mexico campus in 1992 . In 2004 the first high school graduates from the Spanish and English departments of the Mexico campus celebrated their success. In 2010, the International Baccalaureate Organization gave the Swiss School Mexico the right to teach in order to obtain the IB diploma. In 2011 the school started under the new organization with the three different locations and the headmasters for each location and a joint lesson coordination on the Mexico campus. At the same time, the first generation of IB graduates started.
In 1992 the Cuernavaca campus opened its kindergarten and primary school . In 1998 the lower secondary level was added. Sports facilities were inaugurated in 2005.
The Querétaro campus was inaugurated in 2007 and new parcels were acquired in San Borja in 2008. In 2012, extensions in La Cima were inaugurated.
Educational offer
Lessons in kindergarten, primary and secondary level I essentially follow the curricula of Mexico and the patron canton of Zurich . The upper secondary level at all three locations follows the Mexican requirements for preparation for studying in Mexico and the requirements of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The pupils graduate from middle school with the Bachillerato Mexicano, UNAM, and the IB diploma. This gives the students access to both domestic colleges and universities, as well as those in Switzerland and many other countries.
The languages of instruction are German in preschool, Spanish and German in roughly equal parts in primary school, and German, Spanish and English in secondary school.
In addition, the students acquire the German language diploma of stages I and / or II of the German Standing Conference and at least one Cambridge Diploma : B2 First for Schools (FCE) and / or C1 Advanced (CAE) and / or C2 Proficiency (CPE).
Optionally, a DELF diploma for French or a diploma for Chinese Mandarin can be obtained.
From the 3rd primary grade onwards, everyone takes part in a 5 to 10-day class camp.
The graduating classes take part in a business week run by the Schmidheiny Foundation. During one week, the students simulate companies that are in competition with one another and have to assert themselves on the market. The learners are supported by experts from business who help them run a company during the simulation, take measures, understand their consequences and thus identify and benefit from their own learning potential.
As part of the annual school theater, the performers practice their own appearance, expand their empathy for a role and experiment with the design of this role, take responsibility and train themselves in dealing with the young and old.
At the annual Copa Humboldt, primary to secondary school students compete in various sports. In doing so, they gain experience in fair play.
