Schwelmer Strasse 8

The two-storey residential and commercial building at Schwelmer Strasse 8 in Wuppertal - Langerfeld was built around 1785, the rear, southern, partly plastered part of the building ( Odoakerstrasse 7 ) was built in 1677. The half-timbered house is slated and covered with a crooked hip / saddle roof that is hipped to Schwelmer Strasse. The compartment is visible in the front eastern part of the facade. On the ground floor on Schwelmer Straße there is a shop fitting that is accessed via a four-step flight of stairs. The entrance door is flanked by narrow windows.

The rear part of the building, a former farm house from 1677 is the oldest existing building in Long field. It was built by Johann Langerfeld and Sophia Prinz as a replacement for their farm that was destroyed in the Thirty Years War .

The year of construction is documented by an inscription on a wooden plaque:

" Psalm 25 My God
asks me for you, Lord,
I hope you
will not shame me if
my enemies are not
happy about me
Johan Langerfeld and Sophia Prins AO 1677"

Together with the houses at Odoakerstraße 1 and 3 and Schwelmer Straße 5, the building forms an ensemble of buildings around the old church and represents the historic center of Langerfeld.

On July 25, 1985, the house was entered as an architectural monument in the list of monuments of the city of Wuppertal.
