Schwenden is a district of the town of Marktoberdorf in the Swabian district of Ostallgäu (Bavaria).

geography

The village is located approx. 7 km southwest of Marktoberdorf and 2 km west of the district Leuterschach , near the Wertach , which flows here between Görisried and Marktoberdorf. In addition to the main settlement, there are a number of individual properties that are scattered in an area of 2 km in an east-west direction.

history

The name of the settlement comes from the concept of wasting in agriculture.

Approx. The Burgstall , an abandoned castle, is located 200 m northwest of the chapel . The ditch and the wall are still preserved. The builders were the knights of Schwendi . The year 1321 is first mentioned on a memorial stone. The knight's coat of arms is a mill wheel, which was later adopted by the municipality of Leuterschach.

Schwenden was part of the municipality of Leuterschach until the municipal reform . This was incorporated into Marktoberdorf in 1978.

Infrastructure

The village has a chapel, a former dairy and twelve houses, mainly farms. Due to its proximity to Ober- and Unterthingau , the telephone lines were laid in such a way that Schwenden, although belonging to Marktoberdorf, received the dialing code for Unterthingau (08377).
