The Sisters of the Holy Family of Savigliano ( it . : Suore della Sacra Famiglia di Savigliano , abbreviation : STF ) are a congregation under papal law . The religious community chose the Holy Family of Nazareth as its patron saint .

history

The congregation was founded on March 19, 1877 by the Blessed Mother Giuseppina Gabriella Bonino (1843–1906) in Savigliano . Their rules of the order are based on the Discalced Carmelites . After they were founded, they began caring for orphans . The first religious superior , the members elected in 1881 Mother Bonino. Episcopal recognition was given on September 8, 1887 by the Archbishop of Turin Cardinal Gaetano Alimonda . On October 6, 1887, the first twelve nuns took their vows according to the evangelical councils . The community was now called “ Congregation of the Holy Family ”. On August 1, 1975, the community received from Pope Paul VI. the decretum laudis .

The school sisters are mainly involved in the extracurricular education of young people. Her further field of activity is the care of the poor and sick within the parish .

The general house , to which the mother house , the novitiate and a seminar house are attached, has its seat in Savigliano. In 2005 the congregation had 61 nuns who were spread over 14 houses. In Italy there are convents in Caraglio , Bernezzo , Cervasca , Savona , Turin , Caselle Torinese and Loreto . The order has further branches in Brazil (since 1965), Cameroon (since 1980) and Albania (since 1987).
