Scissors & Glue: The Miami Project is a German documentary from 2011. Filmmaker Helmut Schuster explores the cultural city of Miami with his camera . The central question of the film is the social and political relevance of art and culture.

The film was co-produced by the WLRN in collaboration with Zuckerfilm Berlin / Munich.

action

The film is inspired by Eichendorff's " From the life of a good-for-nothing ". The protagonist starts naively and with an open eye in Berlin. He rides his bike over Checkpoint Charlie and suddenly ends up in the middle of the Caribbean world in Miami. Here he visits international art collectors, interviews homeless people on the street and lets himself be carried away by Caribbean music. Today Miami is on the one hand a tourist mecca, on the other hand an art and cultural city with the highest density of private art collections in the world and, last but not least, a place of hope for non-residents from all over the world. Miami Beach is fundamentally different from Miami. Here the rich bathing resort with the highest Ferrari density in the world, there the city of hope for the whole South American continent and the Caribbean. The film tries to shed light on the extent to which the American dream still exists today and to what extent the medium of art is socially relevant or only causes the famous patching of problems.

music and dance

The plot keeps coming back to the Sunday concerts of the Argentine band around Chiara Machiato. She plays in Miami's Bayside Arena every Sunday night without asking for money. All shifts meet here week after week and dance the cares away in their own way.

Locations

The film takes place in the most important museums in Miami and Miami Beach. However, it starts with a short city tour in Berlin. The new art location Wynwood is presented as well as Little Havana with Calle Ocho or Ocean Drive in Miami Beach.

Festivals

Scissors and Glue was in the official program of the FLIFF (Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival) in 2011.
