Sclerocactus scheeri is a species of plant in the genus Sclerocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors theGerman trader and plant lover Frederick Scheer, who lives in Kew . English common names are "Fishhook Cactus", "Root Cactus" and "Twisted-Rib Cactus".

Sclerocactus scheeri grows individually with spherical to cylindrical, green to blue-green shoots that reach heights of 2.5 to 15 centimeters with diameters of 2.5 to 10 centimeters. There are about 13 ribs that are humped. The three to four strong central spines are grayish or whitish and 2 to 5 centimeters long. Some of them are flattened. The eleven to 18 spread, straight, needle-like radial spines are whitish or yellowish. They have a length of 8 to 10 millimeters.
The inconspicuous flowers are greenish and appear from the furrows of the areoles . They are 2 to 3 centimeters long and 1 to 3 centimeters in diameter. The fruits are green.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Sclerocactus scheeri is distributed in southern Texas and in the Mexican states of Coahuila , Nuevo León and Tamaulipas .
It was first described as Echinocactus Scheeri in 1850 by Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck . Nigel Paul Taylor placed it in 1987 in the genus Sclerocactus . Synonyms are Ancistrocactus Scheeri (Salm-Dyck) Britton & Rose , Ferocactus Scheeri (Salm-Dyck) NPTaylor and Pediocactus Scheeri (Salm-Dyck) Halda .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
