Scott Tixier (born February 26, 1986 in Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis) ) is a French violinist and composer of modern jazz .

Career

Tixier grew up in Paris . He studied in Montreuil and at the Paris Conservatory as a classical violinist; his interest in jazz was sparked by the music of Joe Henderson and John Coltrane .

He has worked with Stevie Wonder , Anthony Braxton , Zedd , Dave Douglas , Maceo Parker , Lonnie Plaxico , Siegfried Kessler and Sting , among others.

His twin brother Tony Tixier is a pianist.

Prizes and awards

In 2013 he was honored as Rising Star Violin in the Down Beat magazine's critical poll . He was nominated here last year. In 2013 he was also nominated as Best New Artist in the JazzTimes Critics' Poll . The album Brooklyn Bazaar was listed in JazzTimes Magazine's Critics Top 50 CDs 2012 and selected as Song of the Day on National Public Radio and broadcast internationally. In 2007 he was awarded the first prize of the Trophées du Sunside in Paris.
