Seán Cannon (born November 29, 1940 in Galway ) is an Irish singer and guitarist . He gained fame primarily through his membership in the Irish folk group The Dubliners , of which he was a full member from 1982, after he had previously stood in several times for the sick Luke Kelly .

Life

In his youth, Cannon traveled across Europe and stayed for some time in Germany , Switzerland , Spain and England , where he still lives today. His travels resulted in him being fluent in several languages.

Seán Cannon was a member of the Dubliners until their official dissolution on the 50th anniversary of the stage in 2012. Since then he has been touring regularly with the follow-up band "The Dublin Legends", which also includes former Dubliners members Eamonn Campbell (until 2017) and Patsy Watchorn (until 2014).

In addition to his involvement with the Dubliners, Cannon also appeared repeatedly as a solo artist, often accompanied by Pat Cooksey , in folk clubs in Ireland, England and Germany. Since 2007 Seán Cannon and his son James have been playing regular concerts in England, Germany, the Netherlands and Croatia under the name "The Cannons" during the breaks between the Dubliners and Dublin Legends. In Germany, this has turned into two-week spring tours that are enthusiastically received by the public and the press. Seán Cannon has been accompanied on these tours by his younger son Robert since 2011. In addition to well-known Irish folk songs, the program also includes country, blues and rock'n'roll songs by artists such as Johnny Cash , Bob Dylan and Hank Williams . In January 2011 a first CD entitled "The Cannons" was released. In 2015 a live album was released under the name "The Cannons - Live in Salzgitter", which contains excerpts from the concert in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt from the previous year. Another live album, "Live in Salzgitter, Germany 2015", was released in 2016, which contains a complete concert recording with 30 songs on a double CD.
