Origin and meaning
Sebald is a variant of the name Siegbald . This is a two-part Germanic name and is composed of the two components of Old High German sigu "Sieg" and soon "kühn".

The first known name bearer was the hermit Sebald in the 8th century. This became the city patron of Nuremberg . In the High Middle Ages, the name was mainly used in Franconia . In 1575 Johann Fischart was able to exaggerate the fact that the people of Nuremberg were all called Sebald. The name was also used in the Netherlands .
After the 18th century, the given name largely died out.
In the late Middle Ages was Sebald as a patronymic and the family name .
