Sebastian Elwing (born March 5, 1980 in Berlin , GDR ) is a former German ice hockey goalkeeper who was most recently under contract with the Eisbären Berlin .

Player career

Sebastian Elwing began his career in senior ice hockey at EHC Neue Eisbären Berlin in the 1998/99 season, which applied for the major league and where he played in the northern group in 1999/2000 and 2000/01 . During this period he also played for the Eisbären Berlin in the German Ice Hockey League .

In the U20 national team , he was used at the Junior B World Cup in 1999 .

Following the departure of the teams of the EHC New Eisbären Berlin from gambling activities with subsequent bankruptcy of the club in the summer of 2001 he played 2001-02 in the DEL team of polar bears and the post club Eisbären Juniors Berlin before during the season for ES White water in the 2 Bundesliga changed.

In Weißwasser he stayed even after the bankruptcy of Spielbetriebs GmbH with the successor company participating in gaming operations from 2002/03 , the EHC Lausitzer Füchse, even when they played in the major league for the 2003/04 season . In the summer of 2006 he moved within the 2nd Bundesliga to the Kassel Huskies , who were relegated from the DEL , for whom he formed the goalkeeper team in the 2006/07 season together with Markus Hätinen .

In the 2007/08 season and in the 2008/09 DEL season he was goalkeeper with Boris Rousson for the Kassel Huskies , but switched to EHC Munich during the season . In April 2011 he made the leap to the national team when he stood between the posts for Germany for the first time in an international match against Austria (4: 3). On a temporary basis, he came to two missions in the 2011/12 season at his home club, the Lausitzer Füchsen, when their goalkeeper Jonathan Boutin was injured.

For the 2012/13 season he moved back to his hometown, to the Eisbären Berlin and played for his home club until the end of the 2013/14 season. He then had to end his active career due to a knee injury and did so solemnly as part of a farewell game.

Coaching career

Since 2015 Elwing has been working as a goalkeeper coach for the Lausitzer Füchse, Dresdner Eislöwen and Eisbären Berlin, among others . He also supported the Lausitzer Füchse temporarily as an assistant trainer and coordinated the cooperation between the polar bears and the foxes. Elwing also has its own ice hockey goalkeeping school.
