Sebastian Knauer (born May 14, 1949 in Mannheim ) is a German journalist and author.

Life

Sebastian Knauer studied at universities in Munich , Mannheim and Montreal ; he finished his studies with a degree in economics . From 1970 he worked as a journalist for German broadcasters and the German press agency . From 1977 he was part of the editorial team of the Illustrierte Stern .

He achieved great fame in 1987 when, while researching the Barschel affair in the Geneva Hotel Beau-Rivage, he broke into the hotel room rented by Uwe Barschel , found his body in the bathtub and took the famous and at the same time one of the most controversial photos in press history .

From 1988 to 2010 Knauer was a member of the political department of the news magazine Der Spiegel and until 2015 supervised foundation projects of the SPIEGEL Group, such as the German Press Museum's development initiative and the House of Press Freedom Portal.

From 2000 he took on a teaching position at the Institute for Journalism and Communication Science at the University of Hamburg and works as a lecturer for the Fundraising Academy Frankfurt / Main, CSR manager training course. In 2018, after ten years, he left the jury of the CSR Award of the Kolping Bildungswerk , Stuttgart, formerly CSR Forum dokeo, due to a lack of transparency and greenwashing .

Knauer is volunteering at the Hamburg main church St.Katharinen , in the construction and music maintenance of the reconstruction project "an organ for Bach" in the Foundation Johann Sebastian (SJS), within the framework of the organization of the annual concert format "Zappa plays for Bach" since 2008 as well as the CD publications Edition-SJS.

In addition to his journalistic work , Sebastian Knauer published non-fiction and detective novels .
