history

In the company history of Sedo, a distinction must be made between the original and still existing company Sedo GmbH and the later former Sedo Holding AG in which Sedo GmbH was a subsidiary for a short time.

History of Sedo GmbH

Sedo went online in the first version in January 2000, just under a year later the shareholders Tim Schumacher, Ulrich Priesner and Marius Würzner founded Sedo GmbH for the continued operation of the trading platform. In the same year, United Internet acquired a stake in Sedo.

In 2004 Sedo founded a subsidiary in the United States , Boston was chosen as the location . An office in London was also opened. In 2007 Sedo acquired competitor GreatDomains .

History of the former Sedo Holding

The parent company United Internet gradually took over the majority of Affilinet GmbH and the AdLINK Group . In the course of the reorganization of the various investments, United Internet rearranged its brand portfolio from which the name AdLink Group should drop out. The AdLINK Group was renamed Sedo Holding AG in 2010 and the management of the two group subsidiaries Sedo GmbH and Affilinet GmbH was transferred.

On March 21, 2014, the complete takeover of Sedo Holding AG by United Internet was completed with the entry in the commercial register and the company was removed from the stock exchange. A few months later the holding company was converted from a stock corporation into a GmbH.

In 2014 Sedo Holding GmbH was dissolved through the transfer of affilinet GmbH to the other group management company 1 & 1 Mail + Media Applications SE. Sedo GmbH has been a direct subsidiary of United Internet since then.

Sedo trading platform

Sedo GmbH operates the Sedo trading platform, on which private individuals and companies can buy and sell any domains. With over 3,500 domains traded per month and over 18 million entries in the database, Sedo is the undisputed leader in this segment. Sedo is available in over 20 languages. In 2013 it achieved annual sales of EUR 28 million, has locations in Germany and the USA and employs 165 people.

Domains can be bought and sold not only through Sedo itself, but also through partners. Under the name SedoMLS , the company operates an interface that third providers can use to integrate the core functionality into their own websites. The following companies currently support SedoMLS:

In addition to trading in domains, Sedo also offers domain parking (so-called domain parking ). In the course of this, owners of an address can earn income from advertising that Sedo places on a redirect page of the domain.
