history

The Seefeld mill was bought and operated by master miller Johann Heinrich Höpken. Höpken had already acquired the Erdholländermühle in Schweierfeld in 1868 . When a new competing mill was built in Schwei in 1873 , the miller was looking for a better location for his work. Seefeld was attractive and well just by the damming of August Grodens by approximately 490 ha been enlarged. Höpken initially planned to move its mill from Schweierfeld to Seefeld, but the possibility arose of an almost new mill from Oldenburgto acquire. The Oldenburg miller Hemmen had a new windmill built there in 1864 and now wanted to sell his old one. In 1874 the windmill at the Stau in Oldenburg was dismantled. Construction work in Seefeld began on March 1st, 1875. According to the purchase agreement, the mill had to be built by May 1st, 1876, but the work was probably completed by 1875.

The Seefelder Mühle is, next to the Moorseer Mühle, the last of around 120 mills in the Wesermarsch district . The mill was used commercially until 1986. After the Second World War it fell into disrepair. From 1978, however, it was extensively renovated by private individuals and later restored with public funds. It is now owned by the municipality and is now a well-known cultural and event center. The mill forms a station on the Frisian Mühlenstraße and the Lower Saxony Mühlenstraße .
