Mills

Schweierfeld was a mill location from the middle of the 17th century until the 20th century.

Post mill

In Schweierfeld, a post mill was built on Niedernstrasse between 1669 and 1670 . Its location was central in the Vogtei Schwei on an important route between Ovelgönne and Butjadingen . The first miller was Johann Friedrich Cordes from 1670 to 1674. During the lease period of the next miller Diedrich Dierksen, defects in the buildings were discovered as early as 1685. Dirksen built a house and a barn next to the mill in 1680 . During the Christmas flood of 1717 , the mill was badly damaged. The Dierksen family remained mill tenants until 1744, followed by Johann Hoting as tenant, then in 1759 Johann Onneken and his widow from 1763. Franz Otto Ficke from Hahnenknoop took over the lease from 1774 until it passed to several Frieschenmoor farmers in 1777. In 1800 Reinhard Fuhrken and Harm Hinrich Wicht became tenants. On August 28, 1834, the mill fell over in a storm while it was still in operation; none of the three people in the building were killed. In retrospect, defects in the wood quality were found.

Earth Dutchman

After the destruction of the old mill, a new mill was commissioned by the Schweier bailiff Eschen at a bailiff's meeting. This was an Erdholländermühle . The residents of the Vogtei had to contribute 2000 Reichstalers to the costs. The mill master Tormähen built a new mill at a cost of 6000 Reichstalers. The prerequisite for the new building was the reuse of old usable materials such as wood and millstones from the old mill. Construction began on April 21, 1835 with six carpenters. The depth of the wall was 1.8 meters, 25,000 stones were built here to the surface. On December 7th the mill was removed. In 1868 the mill was taken over by Johann Höpken. A few years later, the mill obligation was lifted ( mill freedom), whereupon several new competing mills were built: 1867 in Neustadt, 1872 in Schwei, so that Höpken in 1873 with a new mill to Seefeld . The mill in Schweierfeld was then dismantled and rebuilt in Stollhamm in 1878 . There it was equipped with a high substructure.
